WASHINGTON — In this Healio video exclusive, the president of the American College of Cardiology discusses the return to an in-person ACC Scientific Session as well as some of the important late-breaking clinical research.

Cardiology Today Editorial Board Member Dipti Itchhaporia, MD, FACC, FESC, president of the ACC, whose term ended at the end of the meeting; the Eric & Sheila Samson Endowed Chair in Cardiovascular Health and director of disease management for Jeffrey M. Carlton Heart and Vascular Institute at Hoag Memorial Hospital, Newport Beach, California; and assistant clinical professor of medicine at University of California, Irvine, reviewed the results of the CHAP and SuperWIN trials presented at the conference.

The CHAP trial evaluated whether it is beneficial and safe to prescribe BP medication to pregnant women with mild chronic hypertension, defined as less than 160/100 mm Hg.

As Healio previously reported, BP medication for mild chronic hypertension during pregnancy reduced adverse pregnancy outcomes and did not impair fetal growth.

The SuperWIN trial was designed in partnership with the grocery retailer Kroger and assessed whether a nutritional intervention delivered in participants’ home grocery store by dieticians would improve adherence to the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) eating plan.

Researchers reported that an intervention utilizing grocery store dieticians was associated with improved diet quality via DASH adherence.
