Cleveland Clinic named best US hospital for cardiology, heart surgery

Cleveland Clinic has been selected by U.S. News & World Report as the top U.S. hospital for cardiology and heart surgery, in the publication’s 2021-2022 Best Hospitals rankings.

It’s very humbling and it’s a great source of pride for our team because we go all out to serve our patients in the best way possible,” Lars Svensson, MD, PhD, chairman of Cleveland Clinic’s Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Institute, told Healio. “We do a lot of research and look at new ways to take care of patients in a better way and we’re incredibly grateful when we are honored in this manner and recognized for all the efforts our team put into delivering the best care in the United States for our patients. As Cleveland Clinic celebrates its centennial this year, we are reminded that we practice medicine on the shoulders of giants that came before us. We are fortunate to work at a place where we are constantly researching and innovating to provide the best care possible to our patients.”
The top five U.S. hospitals for cardiology and heart surgery according to the 2021-2022 Best Hospitals rankings are:
- Cleveland Clinic;
- Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota;
- Cedars-Sinai;
- New York-Presbyterian Hospital-Columbia and Cornell; and
- NYU Langone Hospitals.
The top overall hospital in the U.S. News & World Report ranking was Mayo Clinic, followed by Cleveland Clinic, UCLA Medical Center, Johns Hopkins Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital.
According to a press release from U.S. News & World Report, the rankings are based on a period from before the COVID-19 pandemic, and the pandemic’s impact on hospitals did not factor into the rankings.

Rankings like these by U.S. News affirm our caregivers’ continued dedication to providing patients with the best care anywhere — no matter the challenges."
