ACC launches expanded electrophysiology device implant registry

The American College of Cardiology announced it has expanded the scope of a registry for electrophysiology devices.
The registry, formerly the ICD Registry, is now the EP Device Implant Registry, covering implantable cardioverter defibrillators, cardiac resynchronization therapy devices and pacemakers implanted at more than 800 institutions, according to a press release.
“The expanded scope of the EP Device Implant Registry will allow hospitals to track new and existing procedures, giving them the ability to optimize patient care and outcomes,” Frederick Masoudi, MD, MSPH, FACC, National Cardiovascular Data Registry management board chair and professor of medicine at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, said in the release.
According to the release, the EP Device Implant Registry will include all data and procedures previously captured on the ICD Registry and will allow participants to include data on shared decision-making, a requirement for CMS reimbursement of ICD and CRT-D procedures.
“The registry is well-positioned to support continuous quality assessment and improvement in the growing EP procedure service line,” Masoudi said in the release.
