PHILADELPHIA — In this video exclusive, Yehuda Handelsman, MD, FACP, FNLA, FASPC, MACE, co-chair of the third annual Heart in Diabetes conference, discusses the importance of bringing together clinicians in the fields of cardiology, endocrinology and nephrology to further the management of cardiometabolic diseases.

Heart in Diabetes “is a program that started because there was not a platform to put together cardiologists and endocrinologists and nephrologists — in other words, the multidisciplinary specialists who are actually taking care of people with diabetes and established cardiovascular disease,” Handelsman, who is medical director and principal investigator of The Metabolic Institute of America in Tarzana, California, told Healio.

Highlights from the 2019 conference include updates on treatment options, discussion of “cardiabetes” as a new medical specialty, expert debates and other important sessions relevant for physicians across various specialties.
