VIDEO: Deep dive into paclitaxel concerns continues

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. — In this video exclusive, William A. Gray, MD, presents his top highlights from the International Symposium on Endovascular Therapy, including a “robust and deep dive” into the recent controversy surrounding paclitaxel-coated devices.
A town hall session at ISET 2019 gathered an expert panel and presentations on paclitaxel-coated devices.
“On balance, there did not appear to be a signal with [drug-coated balloon or drug-eluting stent] paclitaxel usage in the lower extremities and long-term mortality,” Gray, system chief of the division of cardiovascular disease at Main Line Health and president of the Lankenau Heart Institute in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania, said of the research presented at ISET and elsewhere that followed after a summary-level meta-analysis suggested such a link.
He noted that further analyses and conversations will come.
Another highlight, Gray said, was a lecture by Jeffrey Olin, MD, on fibromuscular dysplasia, which “covered not only the presentation in the peripheral arterial system, but also the association of fibromuscular dysplasia with spontaneous coronary artery dissection.”
