VIDEO: A 'new wave of innovation' for CLI
LAS VEGAS — In this video exclusive, Jihad A. Mustapha, MD, FACC, FSCAI, highlights results of the anticipated Lutonix BTK study showing safety and efficacy of a drug-coated balloon in below-the-knee lesions.
The randomized trial, presented by Mustapha at VIVA 18, compared outcomes with the Lutonix 014 DCB (BD) and percutaneous transluminal angioplasty in patients with narrowed or obstructed arteries below the knee.
“I’m hoping to see a real iteration and a whole new wave of innovation and hope … for new drug-coated balloon technologies in research and development … for critical limb ischemia, because critical limb ischemia isn’t going anywhere so we’ve got to find multiple methods to treat it,” Mustapha, CLI specialist at Advanced Cardiac and Vascular Amputation Prevention Centers in Grand Rapids, Michigan, told Cardiology Today’s Intervention.
