The American College of Cardiology, Heart Failure of Society of America, Heart Rhythm Society and Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions are partnering to develop new assessment modules to help subspecialty cardiologists meet requirements of American Board of Internal Medicine’s current 10-year Maintenance of Certification examination, according to a press release.
“It is a shared goal of ACC, HFSA, HRS and SCAI to help our collective members ensure their patients are receiving the highest quality, evidence-based care,” Mary Norine Walsh, MD, FACC, ACC president, medical director of the HF and cardiac transplantation programs at St. Vincent Heart Center in Indianapolis and Cardiology Today Editorial Board member, said in the release. “In offering additional pathways for cardiologists who wish to maintain their professional certification, we can more effectively and efficiently help busy clinicians keep up with current knowledge in their specific areas of practice.”
Through the partnership, the ACC will enhance its ACC Self-Assessment Program (SAP) products with SAP products from other subspecialties to fulfill the needs of interventionalists, electrophysiologists and HF specialists.
“This program and partnership will deliver great value for all of our members,” Christopher O’Connor, MD, FHFSA, president of HFSA and CEO of Inova Heart and Vascular Institute, Fairfax, Virginia, said in the release. “The sophistication of these self-assessment modules will allow a more streamlined pathway for maintaining credentials.”
The partners still need to reach an agreement with ABIM, but hope the new products will launch in 2019, according to the release.
