FOURIER investigator, CVD experts to lead sessions at ASPC Congress

A senior investigator from the FOURIER trial will deliver the keynote speech at the American Society for Preventive Cardiology 2017 Congress on CVD Prevention, according to a press release.
On Sept. 15, Robert P. Giugliano, MD, SM, associate professor at Harvard Medical School, cardiovascular medicine specialist at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and a senior investigator at the Thrombolysis in Myocardial Infarction Study Group, will focus on the present and future of PCSK9 inhibitors given the data from the FOURIER trial and other significant trials on new therapeutic strategies.
The Nanette K. Wenger Distinguished Lecture on September 16 will feature Martha Gulati, MD, MS, FASPC, professor of medicine and chief of the division of cardiology at the University of Arizona-Phoenix, who will discuss treating heart disease in women and the importance of specialized care for women.
On Sept. 17, a debate on advanced lipoprotein testing will be held between Allan D. Sniderman, MD, professor of cardiology at McGill University in Montreal, and Jennifer G. Robinson, MD, MPH, professor and director of the preventive intervention center at the University of Iowa in Iowa City. The debate will focus on the benefits and hype of advanced lipoprotein testing.
A town hall forum will take place on Sept. 16 titled, “PCSK9 Inhibitor Access Barriers: Issues and Recommendations: Improving the Access Process for Patients, Clinicians and Payers.” The satellite symposium will feature a publication that analyzes barriers of accessing PCSK9 inhibitors and how to overcome them.
All sessions will be live-streamed and available on-demand for those unable to attend.
