The American Heart Association, with support from Bayer, has issued three grants to researchers in three areas: cerebral small vessel disease, chronic kidney disease and HF, according to a press release.

The awardees are:

  • John Cole, MSEE, MD, of University of Maryland, Baltimore;
  • Xiaonan Wang, MD, of Emory University; and
  • Quinn Wells, PharmD, MD, of Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

“Research in each of these areas will help provide individuals not only with better prevention and treatment options, but also to help realize the promise of precision medicine,” Rose Marie Robertson, MD, FAHA, chief science and medical officer of AHA, said in the release. “The AHA and Bayer are committed to supporting the next generation of researchers so we can have a deeper understanding of these diseases.”

Each investigator will receive $150,000 to address unmet needs in these disease states and will contribute their research data to the AHA Precision Medicine Platform, which houses data on the cloud for future research.
