WASHINGTON — The American College of Cardiology granted its lifetime achievement award to Valentin Fuster, MD, PhD, director of Mount Sinai Heart and physician-in-chief of The Mount Sinai Hospital.

The award, presented during the convocation ceremony at the ACC Scientific Session, was given to Fuster for his lifetime of contributions and service as a role model to the CV profession, according to a press release.

A common thread in Fuster’s research is attenuating the threat of heart disease around the world through early education; he has published more than 900 scientific articles and received honorary doctorates from 33 universities, according to the release.

In addition, Fuster is editor-in-chief of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology and past president of the American Heart Association and the World Heart Federation. He also is a member of the U.S. National Academy of Medicine and the European Horizon 2020 Scientific Panel on Health, and co-chair of the consensus committee on global health advising the Trump administration.
