Cardiologist to lead presidential advisory committee on global health

Valentin Fuster, MD, PhD, director of Mount Sinai Heart and physician-in-chief of The Mount Sinai Hospital, has been appointed co-chair of the consensus committee on global health that will advise the next presidential administration.
The 15-member committee was established by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine to assess the global health sphere and make recommendations on how to best use resources, according to a press release issued by Mount Sinai.
“I am honored to lead this prestigious committee,” Fuster said in the release. “I have spent the last 40 years dedicated to the promotion of heart health worldwide. This position will enable me to further contribute to the future of global health.”
Fuster is the editor-in-chief of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology and is past president of the American Heart Association and the World Heart Federation. He has authored two books on clinical cardiology and research and almost 1,000 articles on subjects ranging from CAD to thrombosis.
“This new appointment is another example of the exemplary leadership that Valentin Fuster has demonstrated at the Mount Sinai Health System,” Dennis S. Charney, MD, dean of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, said in the release. “His many years as a clinician and a scientist will serve him well in this capacity.”
