NIH names Goff director of CV sciences for NHLBI

The NIH announced that it has selected David C. Goff, Jr., MD, PhD, as the new director of the NHLBI’s division of cardiovascular sciences.
Goff has been the dean of the Colorado School of Public Health and has a long track record of accomplishments as a CV epidemiologist, clinical trialist and physician, according to a press release issued by the institute.
Goff served as a principal investigator for various trials, including ACCORD and SPRINT, chaired the steering committee of the CARDIA cohort study and has published more than 280 peer-reviewed manuscripts, according to the release.
Goff recently served as a member of the NHLBI Guideline Executive Group and as co-chair of the NHLBI Risk Assessment Working Group, which wrote the 2013 American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association Guideline on the Assessment of Cardiovascular Risk.
According to the release, Goff’s time serving as chair on professional organizations such as the Council on Epidemiology and Prevention as well as the Quality of Care and Outcomes Research for the AHA, demonstrate that he is qualified to convene groups, achieve consensus and produce results.
Goff will begin his new position on Nov. 28, the institute stated in the release.
