ORLANDO, Fla. — In this Cardiology Today video exclusive, Gregg C. Fonarow, MD, professor of cardiovascular medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles, discusses how pluripotent stem cells are being used to expand the ability to diagnose and potentially treat CVD.

Fonarow was a moderator on the plenary session presented at the Heart Failure Society of America Scientific Assembly and discusses the future of stem cell “clinical trials in a dish.” This approach may allow physicians to study the cardiac toxicity that may occur with specific drugs in individual blood cells and lead to an advanced understanding of the proper therapeutic response.

According to Fonarow, there are many great clinical implications from this trial, and the research presented could lead to “truly achieving a precision medicine approach for CVD.”
