American Society for Preventive Cardiology announces speakers for upcoming congress
Attendees of the upcoming American Society of Preventive Cardiology Congress on Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease in September will gain real-world perspective on how to translate current atherosclerotic CVD prevention research into effective treatment strategies for clinical practice.
On Sept. 17, the keynote speaker at the 2016 congress in Boca Raton, Florida, will be Dariush Mozaffarian, MD, DrpH, dean of the Tufts Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy. Mozaffarian is a thought leader on the science of lifestyle and congenital heart disease, and he strives to create system interventions and policies to effectively reduce the burdens of these issues. His keynote presentation will address rethinking dietary fat, according to a release issued by the society.

Amit Khera, MD, FASPC, medical director of cardiac rehabilitation and associate professor of medicine at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School and Parkland Memorial Hospital, will speak on Sept. 18 about lessons that have been learned from MESA and beyond, and how noninvasive imaging methods can help guide therapy.
The closing presentation on Sept. 18 will be given by ASPC President-Elect Seth Baum, MD, FASPC, who is the medical director of women’s preventive cardiology at Boca Raton Regional Hospital. Baum will discuss the use of new lipid-altering medications in clinical practice.

In addition to these highlights talks, the congress will also feature a town hall forum, titled “Unraveling a Therapeutic Conundrum: A Town Hall on Barriers to Access PCSK9 Inhibitors.” The forum will bring together thought leaders from multiple organizations to address consumers’ limited access to PCSK9 inhibitors and how to raise awareness and chang policies to allow more widespread access to PCSK9 inhibitors.
