AAHFN Annual Meeting will highlight fundamental, advanced science

The Cardiology Today, Cardiology Today’s Intervention and Healio.com/Cardiology team will provide live coverage from the annual meeting of the American Association of Heart Failure Nurses beginning today, June 23.

The theme of this year’s conference, which is being held in Scottsdale, AZ, is “Shining New Light on HF” and will feature 3 days of fundamental, advanced and global sessions. Reducing readmissions among patients with HF will be addressed in several presentations, as well as therapeutic approaches and the role of cardiac rehabilitation.

Two oral abstract sessions are being held during the meeting. The first session will address the benefits of an integrated rural delivery system and outcomes associated with a multidisciplinary self-management group intervention held during clinic appointments, as well as the patient perspective on LVAD implantation. The second session will cover the CardioMEMS HF System, impaired cognitive impairment in patients with HF and the use of the Yale University School of Medicine Center for Outcomes Research and Evaluation (CORE) Readmission Risk Calculator for determining 30-day readmission risk.

Marilyn Prasun, RN, PhD, CCNS, CNL, FAHA, CHFN, coordinator of the Heart Failure Disease Management program at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, Illinois, will deliver the presidential address. Incoming AAHFN President Cindy J. Bither, RN, MSN, ANP-C, ACNP-C, CHFN, of Medstar Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C., will speak on the last day of the meeting, prior to an awards presentation.

Our team will report from Scottsdale throughout the meeting, which will conclude on June 25. Visit Healio.com/Cardiology throughout the conference for breaking news, video perspectives from experts in the field on major trial results, and more. - by Julia Ernst, MS
