Boston Children’s Hospital named best for pediatric cardiology, heart surgery

Boston Children’s Hospital has been ranked as the nation’s No. 1 hospital for pediatric cardiology and heart surgery by U.S. News & World Report.
The institution also won the distinction last year and earned the top spot on the 2016-2017 Best Children’s Hospitals Honor Roll. This accolade was given to 11 hospitals that scored highly in three or more pediatric specialties, according to a press release.
“Our patients and families inspire us to do the best for them every single day, and these rankings reflect that dedication,” Sandra L. Fenwick, president and CEO of Boston Children’s Hospital, said in a press release. “Families look to Boston Children’s for answers, and it’s our job to provide them with the very best care.”
U.S. News & World Report releases the Best Children’s Hospitals rankings annually in order for sick children and their families to choose the best medical care, according to a press release from the publication.
Rounding out the top five for pediatric cardiology and heart surgery hospitals this year are Texas Children's Hospital in Houston, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, Children's Healthcare of Atlanta and Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford in Palo Alto, California.
Boston Children’s Hospital also ranked first in seven other specialties: cancer, gastroenterology/GI surgery, neonatology, nephrology, neurology/neurosurgery, orthopedics and urology.
For this year’s rankings, 106 hospitals were evaluated in 10 pediatric specialties. The factors used in the rankings included opinions of nearly 11,000 pediatric specialists and subspecialists, as well as data on clinical outcomes, efficiency of care, compliance with best practices and availability of resources.
