NEW ORLEANS — In this video, Joyce Ross, MSN, CRNP, CLS, FNLA, president of the National Lipid Association, discusses a workshop providing assistance to patients and physicians to fight against obesity.

“We know that our patients are so confused when it comes to what to do, how to do it,” Ross, certified registered nurse practitioner, clinical specialist and clinical lipid specialist at the Cardiovascular Risk Intervention Program at the University of Pennsylvania, said. “Providers are just as confused because we see the same information that our patients see online [or] in magazines about the ‘easy fix,’ the ‘miracle,’ ... and sometimes we stumble as well. The whole idea of this workshop was to put people together who actually can show the people in our audience how to get it done.”

The workshop included a dietician discussing current obesity guideline, a speaker offering insights on how to change behavior and a specialist on exercise.

“It’s a very exciting time to be talking about this epidemic, which is one of the huge risk factors ... in our country today,” Ross concluded.
