Trial assessed the long-term effects of off-pump CABG vs. PCI on cardiac and cognitive outcomes.

Design: randomized
Patients: 280
Centers: multicenter
Countries: The Netherlands

RESULTS: Patients were followed for 7.5 years. Cognitive outcome assessment was completed in 81% of the study population. Cardiac outcomes, including a composite of stroke, MI and death, occurred in 40% of PCI patients and 31% of patients in the off-pump group (P=.12). Cognitive outcome was better in patients undergoing off-pump CABG than PCI (P<.01). In the PCI group, 21.7% of patients underwent repeat revascularization compared with 11.3% in the off-pump CABG group (P=.02).

Presented at AHA 2009.
