The American College of Cardiology announced that Boehringer Ingelheim has become the latest industry sponsor of the Diabetes Collaborative Registry.

The registry was developed by the ACC, in collaboration with the American Diabetes Association, the American College of Physicians, the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists and the Joslin Diabetes Center, according to a press release. Since its launch in 2014, more than 100 practice entities have enrolled, across multiple specialties, for a total of 500 practice locations and 1,300 care providers throughout 28 states.

The goal of the registry is to serve as the largest repository of clinical data on diabetes and cardiometabolic care in a real-world setting, according to the release, and will include patients with diabetes enrolled in the PINNACLE ambulatory CV registry maintained by the ACC. Participants are able to track treatment adherence and performance, identify possible opportunities for improvement to quality of care, and meet the requirements for certain federal incentive reporting programs, according to the release.

“Heart disease is the leading cause of death for people with diabetes,” ACC President and Cardiology Today Editorial Board member Kim Allan Williams, MD, FACC, said in the release. “Their unique needs call for cross-specialty care that will be made possible through the Diabetes Collaborative Registry, and we thank Boehringer Ingelheim for joining the effort to support the continued, accelerated growth of this registry.”
