Jagat Narula, MD, receives ACC Distinguished Scientist Award

The American College of Cardiology presented Jagat Narula, MD, PhD, MACC, associate dean for global affairs at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and Cardiology Today Editorial Board member, with its Distinguished Scientist Award at the ACC Annual Scientific Sessions in San Diego.

Narula received the award in recognition of his contributions to translational medicine in CVD, according to a press release.

“My colleagues and I from the American College of Cardiology take great pleasure in honoring Dr. Jagat Narula with our 2015 ACC Distinguished Scientist Award,” John G. Harold, MD, MACC, immediate past president of the ACC, said in the release. “Dr. Narula is a master teacher who has made major contributions to the science of atherosclerosis and cardiac imaging. … We congratulate Dr. Narula for his distinguished career and innumerable contributions to CV medicine.”

Narula, who also serves as the chief of cardiology at Mount Sinai St. Luke’s and Mount Sinai Roosevelt, director of CV imaging for the Mount Sinai Health System and editor-in-chief of the Journal of American College of Cardiology – CV Imaging and Global Heart, is known for his work in the prevention of MI and HF through the use of novel imaging techniques, according to the release.

The ACC had previously granted Narula the Gifted Educator Award and named him one of the “Innovators of CV Medicine” in 2012.

“This award is one of my most treasured honors of my career,” Narula said in the release. “I am grateful to the American College of Cardiology for this prestigious recognition of my scientific pursuits to advance cardiac patient care, research and medical education.”
