The American Heart Association, in collaboration with the American Stroke Association and StopAfib.org, have launched an online community for patients with atrial fibrillation.

My AFib Experience was designed to engage patients with AF to better understand and manage their condition, as well as communicate with others who have AF, according to a press release.

The website offers information to aid patients with all stages of AF. Topics covered include lifestyle factors such as diet and exercise; questions to ask a physician during a clinic visit; and explanations of the blood work and medical tests associated with AF. Patients can provide information about their age, activity level and health conditions to personalize the information they receive while visiting the website. A forum allows users to share their own experiences and communicate with one another. My AFib Experience also offers links to current treatment guidelines and clinical research relevant to AF, according to the release.

“My AFib Experience bridges the information gap for patients with AF and their health care providers with clear, understandable and usable information,” Debbie McCall, a patient with AF who serves on the website’s patient advisory committee, stated in the release. McCall said she sought information and help from several online support groups during her personal AF diagnosis process.
