Healio.com will provide live coverage of HFSA Annual Scientific Meeting
The Cardiology Today and Healio.com/Cardiology team will report live from the Heart Failure Society of America Annual Scientific Meeting starting on Monday, Sept. 15, in Las Vegas.
The meeting will feature presentations of late-breaking clinical trials, including:
- STEP-WISE, a phase 2b trial assessing cross-linked phyloelectrolyte vs. placebo among patients with HF.
- Results of a study evaluating the use of once-daily ZS-9 for maintenance of normokalemia among patients with chronic HF receiving RAAS inhibitors.
- Primary endpoint results from PARACHUTE III, a European post-marketing trial of percutaneous ventricular restoration with the Parachute device among patients with ischemic dilated HF.
- A trial evaluating the reduction of serum potassium via patiromer for the prevention of recurrent hyperkalemia among patients with chronic kidney disease and HF on RAAS inhibitors.
In addition to late-breaking trials, the meeting will feature several research presentations, including two Rapid-Fire Abstract sessions, during which researchers will present and discuss papers on topics including emerging therapies, end-of-life care, diuretics and left ventricular assist devices.
Other sessions of note include a discussion on HF prevention conducted jointly with the American Heart Association; an overview of major HF trials from the previous year; and satellite symposia on remote patient monitoring, hyponatremia and HF, and treatment guidelines and options for patients with HF and mitral regurgitation, among others.
Also, the Hyde Park Session, to be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 16, will offer “imaginative, insightful and humorous” presentations on HF-related topics. According to the HFSA website, speakers are invited to “present a novel hypothesis, which may or may not be supported by real data; present a contrarian point of view, just for the fun of taking an unpopular position; [and] complain, cajole or provoke, in an effort to force audience reactions that run the gamut from disbelief to reluctant acceptance.”
