Cardiology Today’s Editorial Board scanned the headlines appearing in 2010 and chose the 10 most important stories appearing in our pages last year, with RE-LY topping the list. We asked our editorial board members to select their top 10 headlines from a list of more than two dozen articles appearing in 2010. Their votes were tallied and the result is the Top 10 list below. The following are the top 10 stories of 2010, in order of their importance (below).

  1. RE-LY: Select doses of dabigatran reduced stroke, bleeding vs. warfarin.
  2. PLATO: Ticagrelor found superior to clopidogrel in CV death, MI and stroke, despite CYP2C19, ABCB1 genotypes.
  3. ROCKET AF: Rivaroxaban, warfarin comparable in AF.
  4. DEFINE: Anacetrapib raises HDL, lowers LDL.
  5. CABANA: Catheter ablation effectively reduced AF.
  6. CREST: Surgery, stenting of carotid artery yielded similar safety, efficacy.
  7. ASCEND-HF: Nesiritide did not improve outcomes in decompensated HF.
  8. ASCOT: High-sensitivity CRP screening produced no significant improvements in CVD assessment.
  9. FDA restricts rosiglitazone use.
  10. Dabigatran etexilate approved to prevent stroke in AF.
