ANAHEIM, Calif. — Remote patient monitoring and remote therapeutic monitoring can increase access to asthma care, Priya J. Bansal, MD, FAAAAI, FACAAI, said at the American College of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology Annual Scientific Meeting.
“This is a wonderful tool for our asthmatics. We can do remote patient monitoring when we want to track their spirometry or we want to track their FEV1,” Bansal, allergist and immunologist at the Asthma and Wellness Center in Saint Charles, Illinois, and a Healio Allergy/Asthma Peer Perspective Board Member, told Healio. “We also can do it for therapeutic monitoring, meaning we are looking at their compliance.”
Bansal hopes that as remote patient monitoring becomes more widely adopted, more insurers will provide coverage.
“If I had my wish list,” Bansal said, “I would definitely say that I would like to address asthma in the underserved population and really take a closer look with asthma and health care disparities using [remote patient monitoring] and [remote therapeutic monitoring].”
