LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Amanda L. Michaud, DMSc, PA-C, AE-C, highlights a session at American College of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology Annual Scientific Meeting in which speakers discuss proven and unproven tests used in food allergy diagnostics.
These diagnostics include component testing, basophil activation test and epitope testing.
Michaud also discusses the availability of unproven alternative-medicine testing techniques that are not backed by science.
“The key takeaway points from that talk are how to talk to our patients about those tests, why they don’t work and then how to educate our patients properly on the need to see a board-certified allergy group to help diagnose their food allergies,” Michaud said.
Michaud is a physician assistant at Family Allergy and Asthma Consultants in Jacksonville, Florida, and secretary of the Association of PAs in Allergy, Asthma and Immunology.
