Asthma, COPD devices market expected to reach $34.3 billion by 2020

The global asthma and COPD devices market is forecast to reach $34.3 billion by 2020, according to a press release from Allied Market Research.

The figure is based on a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 4.5% from 2014 to 2020, the release said. Dry powder inhalers are expected to be “the most lucrative market segment” with a CAGR of 5.3%, according to the release.

The largest revenue-generating segment of the global asthma and COPD devices market will continue to be metered-dose inhalers (MDIs). Concerns over release of environmentally hazardous gases, specifically chlorofluorocarbon and hydrofluoroalkanes, however, are expected to negatively affect MDI growth.

Nebulizers, currently responsible for 13% of the global asthma and COPD devices market, will have diminishing growth through 2020, due to their larger setups compared with other portable devices. Compressor nebulizers are forecast to be the most lucrative within the nebulizers segment, growing at 7% CAGR.

North America is expected to be “one of the most lucrative markets, in terms of growth,” the release said.
