Propeller Health announced recently that it will offer inhaler technique coaching via Helpouts by Google to patients using its digital therapeutic system.

“As a physician, I see firsthand the challenges that patients face in learning how to correctly use inhaled medications,” Fernando Holguin, MD, MPH, associate professor of medicine and pediatrics, and assistant director of the Asthma Institute, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, said in a press release. “I’m excited to see Propeller tackling this problem in a way that can bring convenient and effective technique training to more patients.”

The real-time video consultations will provide coaching and answers from a trained Propeller Health pharmacist for patients with asthma, COPD or other chronic respiratory diseases and their caregivers, according to the release. The one-on-one video call takes place on the patient’s computer, tablet or smartphone and is HIPAA-compliant, the release said.

As many as two-thirds of patients do not perform the proper steps to deliver inhaled medications, according to the release.
