LOS ANGELES — B. Aviva Preminger, MD, discusses the Young Plastic Surgeon Steering Committee and some of its initiative projects that were held during Plastic Surgery The Meeting.

Preminger is a board-certified plastic surgeon in New York, president elect of the New York Regional Society of Plastic Surgeons and chair of the Young Plastic Surgeon Steering Committee of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). As committee chair with a seat on the ASPS board, Preminger has been in position to represent the needs and interests of young plastic surgeons.

One of the committee’s initiatives was a service project that involved selling ties and scarves to benefit the Breast Reconstruction Awareness (BRA) Day fund created by the Plastic Surgery Foundation. The initiative generated more than $22,000 in revenue, Preminger told Healio.com/Aesthetics.

Another initiative was the Resident’s Bowl where residents from 26 national programs competed by answering factual questions about plastic surgery, and the Fresh Faces panel where three young plastic surgeons presented difficult cases for analysis and comment by more experienced mentors.
