Alan S. Hilibrand, MD, elected chair of AAOS Communications Cabinet
Alan S. Hilibrand, MD, was elected chair of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons Communications Cabinet at the organization’s annual meeting.
Hilibrand is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon who specializes in surgical and nonsurgical care of the spine. He is a professor of orthopaedic surgery and neurosurgery and the director of medical education for the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Rothman Institute and Jefferson Medical College, both in Philadelphia.

The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) Communications Cabinet promotes musculoskeletal health, injury prevention, and the specialty of orthopaedics through media relations and internal and external communications. Through its activities, the Communications Cabinet oversees, coordinates and supports the leadership of the AAOS in the accomplishment of their goals and objectives within the priorities of the overall strategic plan and provides liaison support to other councils, the Board of Specialties, Board of Councilors and other advisory boards.
With a long track record of volunteer leadership with the AAOS, Hilibrand previously served as vice chair of the Communications Cabinet (2006 to 2010), as deputy editor for spine for The Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (2009 to 2014), and as a member of the AAOS CME Courses Committee (2011 to 2015).
