Miramar Labs has announced the appointment of R. Michael Kleine as its new president, chief executive officer and a member of board of directors.

Miramar is the maker of the miraDry, a non-invasive system that delivers energy under the arm, creating localized heat to destroy and eliminate sweat glands, which received FDA clearance in 2011, according to a press release.

Kleine will succeed Darrell Zoromski, Miramar’s current president and CEO, who had previously announced his attention to step down to spend more time with his family, the release stated. Zoromski joined Miramar in 2008 and during his tenure, the company introduced miraDry into Japan and completed a clinical trial that led to FDA clearance, according to the release. The product was launched in the United States in 2012.

Kleine was most recently CEO of EndoGastricSolutions, where he will continue to serve as chairman of the board, according to the release.

“Since the launch of the miraDry system, the company has gained a strong foothold in North America and Asia,” Kleine said in the release. “There is significant interest in finding a lasting solution for chronic underarm sweat that is sometimes embarrassing. With the recent CE mark approval, the company is poised to expand rapidly in Europe.”
