Activity Description
COVID-19 has led to a healthcare crisis that continues to have significant morbidity and mortality for vulnerable populations. Immune-mediated inflammatory diseases (IMIDs) and immunosuppressive therapies create a heterogeneous group of immunosuppressed patients at increased risk for poor vaccine response, high symptomatic burden, and progression to severe COVID-19. Disease prevention, rapid diagnosis, and timely initiation of treatment is therefore of great importance for rheumatology patients. In this fast-paced educational program, faculty will review the latest data, therapies, and strategies to educate patients and practitioners on the prevention and outpatient management of COVID-19 in patients with IMIDs. This CE activity will feature interactive Rapid-Fire Roundtable discussions and case presentations, in which experts in rheumatology, immunology, and infectious diseases discuss current challenges and opportunities regarding COVID-19 prevention and management.
Target Audience
The intended audience for this activity is rheumatologists and other healthcare professionals involved in the management of patients who are immunocompromised.
Learning Objectives
Upon successful completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:
- Identify patients with inflammatory rheumatic diseases who are at high-risk for severe COVID-19 outcomes.
- Summarize current and emerging strategies for the prevention of COVID-19 in immunocompromised patients with IMIDs.
- Outline approaches to improve care coordination for immunocompromised patients at-risk for severe COVID-19 outcomes.
