Activity Description

In this case-based Curbside Consult activity, Drs. Kagan and Richard-Davis discuss a case of a 46-year-old Black woman who has tried over-the-counter preparations for hot flashes with no improvement and her subsequent clinical course.

Target Audience

The intended audience for this activity includes family medicine physicians, internists, obstetricians, gynecologists, physician associates, and nurse practitioners involved in the management of women experiencing perimenopause and menopause.

Learning Objectives

Upon successful completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:

  • Recognize the negative effects that menopause and related vasomotor systems have on the physical, emotional, mental, and social well-being of all women, irrespective of race and socioeconomic background.
  • List the differences in symptoms experienced during the menopausal transition by women of color to reduce disparities in diagnosis.
  • Select treatments for all phases of menopause, based on efficacy, safety, individual patient needs, and shared decision-making.
