Activity Description
In this case-based Curbside Consult, Drs. Elion and Hazra discuss the clinical evidence, availability, and appropriate use of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) as well as racial/ethnic disparities and approaches to increase the usage of PrEP.
Target Audience
The intended audience for this activity is family medicine physicians, internists, obstetricians/gynecologists, pharmacists, physician associates, nurse practitioners, and other healthcare professionals involved in the management of patients at risk for HIV.
Learning Objectives
Upon successful completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:
- Communicate with patients regarding the clinical evidence, availability, and appropriate use of PrEP as well as the importance of adherence and approaches to mitigate the associated stigma.
- Recognize racial/ethnic disparities and approaches to increase the usage of PrEP in regions with the highest rates of HIV infection.

Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn up to 0.25 Medical Knowledge MOC points in the American Board of Internal Medicine’s (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. Participants will earn MOC points equivalent to the amount of CME credits claimed for the activity. It is the CME activity provider’s responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC credit.
Participants who opt in by providing their ABIM ID and DOB (MM/DD) will earn MOC points equivalent to the amount of CME credits claimed for the activity.
This program is acceptable for 0.25 contact hours of ACPE Continuing Education Credit. The ACPE Universal Program Number is JA0006104-0000-24-054-H02-P, effective 4/30/2024. This is a knowledge-based activity and there is no fee to attend.

This enduring material is approved for 1 year from the date of original release, April 30, 2024, to April 29, 2025.
How to Participate in This Activity and Obtain CE Credit
To participate in this activity, you must read the objectives, answer the polling and pretest questions, view the content, and complete the posttest and evaluation. Provide only one (1) correct answer for each question. A satisfactory score is defined as answering 100% of the posttest questions correctly. If a satisfactory score on the posttest is achieved, Vindico Medical Education will issue an AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™ certificate, AAPA Category 1 CME credit certificate, or CPE Statement of Credit.
