Activity Description
Retinal diseases, such as neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) and diabetic macular edema (DME), present a growing burden because of their increasing prevalence and the unmet need for effective treatments. Despite promising results from clinical trials, real-world outcomes often fall short as a result of undertreatment and inconsistent application of therapies such as anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) agents. Recent advances, including newer therapies and treatment protocols, aim to reduce the frequency of injections and improve patient outcomes. Key stakeholders—retina specialists, ophthalmologists, and optometrists—must stay informed and competent to effectively integrate new research into practice. The increasing global incidence of diabetes further exacerbates the prevalence of DME, underscoring the importance of timely and consistent treatment to manage this condition. In this CE activity, expert faculty review abstract data from ASRS regarding new therapeutic protocols and the latest information on safety and efficacy of anti-VEGF therapies used in the treatment of nAMD and DME.
Target Audience
The intended audience for this activity is US-based ophthalmologists and retina specialists involved in the management of patients with, or at risk for, retinal diseases.
Learning Objectives
Upon successful completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:
- List anti-VEGF therapies that can reduce treatment burden in patients with retinal diseases.
- Interpret the latest clinical data regarding the safety and efficacy of anti-VEGF therapies used in the treatment of retinal diseases.
