Evaporative Dry Eye: Breaking the Drought in Diagnosis and Treatment

Overview

Provider Statement

This continuing education activity is provided by Vindico Medical Education

Support Statement

This activity is supported by an educational grant from Bausch + Lomb.

Activity Description

Dry eye disease (DED) is highly prevalent and associated with significant burden, but is frequently underdiagnosed and undertreated, especially as many patients are asymptomatic. There are 2 primary types of DED: aqueous-deficient DED and evaporative DED. Studies have shown that up to 87% of dry eye patients have evaporative DED, for which the major cause is meibomian gland dysfunction. New and emerging therapies with novel mechanisms of action that manage the signs and symptoms of evaporative DED are currently being investigated. In this case-based CME activity, experts in the field evaluate different methodologies that improve the diagnosis and assess available and emerging therapies for DED based on the latest clinical evidence.

Target Audience

The intended audience for this activity is ophthalmologists and other healthcare professionals involved in the management of patients with DED.

Learning Objectives

Upon successful completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:

  • Outline different methodologies for differentially diagnosing evaporative DED.
  • Apply safety and efficacy data of available and emerging therapeutic options for evaporative DED.
