Activity Description
Medical management of glaucoma utilizes agents that lower intraocular pressure (IOP) by decreasing aqueous production, reducing episcleral venous pressure (EVP), and/or increasing uveoscleral and trabecular outflow. Improved outcomes for patients with glaucoma can be achieved by engaging Rho-kinase inhibition (ROCKi), often in combination with therapies using complementary mechanisms of action. This monograph focuses on real-world best practices for expanded treatment options beyond the traditional glaucoma therapy mainstays of prostaglandin analogues and β-blockers. Experts in the field review the clinical and real-world data on ROCKi-based regimens for glaucoma, comparing monotherapy and combination therapy approaches for lowering IOP. The authors discuss a clinical case to highlight optimal use of these therapies in practice.
Target Audience
The intended audience for this activity is comprehensive ophthalmologists and other healthcare professionals involved in the management of patients with glaucoma.
Learning Objectives
Upon successful completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:
- Define the mechanism of action of Rho-kinase inhibitors to better understand how they reduce IOP and EVP.
- Compare the efficacy of Rho-kinase inhibitors, both as monotherapy and combination therapy, in the management of glaucoma.
