Activity Description
Neurotrophic keratitis (NK) is a degenerative corneal disease characterized by a decrease in corneal sensitivity. Diagnosis in the early stages of NK can be challenging if patients are experiencing few symptoms, but if left undiagnosed and untreated, complications such as corneal ulceration, stromal melting, and vision loss can occur. Corneal sensitivity testing is essential in the diagnosis of NK. When integrated properly into management protocols, current and emerging treatment options can restore corneal sensitivity, promote healing, and stop disease progression. In this CE monograph, experts in the field discuss best practices for the early diagnosis of NK, including corneal sensitivity testing. Faculty will also review clinical evidence for current and investigational NK therapies, using case-based examples to highlight approaches to diagnosis and treatment of NK across various its disease stages.
Target Audience
The intended audience for this activity is ophthalmologists and other healthcare professionals involved in the management of patients with NK.
Learning Objectives
Upon successful completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:
- Employ corneal sensitivity testing and other diagnostic modalities for the staging and early detection of NK.
- Utilize the clinical evidence for current and investigational therapies for the management of NK.
