Support Statement

This activity is supported by an educational grant from Horizon Therapeutics USA, Inc.

Activity Description

Thyroid eye disease (TED) is an autoimmune disorder that presents with heterogeneous symptoms and is frequently misdiagnosed. Clinicians often lack an understanding of the pathogenesis of TED and its relationship with hyperthyroidism, leading to less desirable outcomes in patients. Differential diagnosis as well as early diagnosis and treatment can help limit the risk of progression to more severe forms of the disease, including disfigurement and vision loss. Healthcare professionals who manage patients with TED should be able to apply real-world evidence for the use of current medical treatments and be knowledgeable about the surgical procedures that can improve patient outcomes. In addition to the current treatment paradigm, data on new and emerging therapies are continuously being published, promoting the need for continuing education to keep our healthcare professionals up to date on the latest information available. The Thyroid Eye Disease 360° Guidance: Surgical Procedures, Research Trends, and Case Challenges monograph will address surgical trends, new research on emerging therapies, examine case presentations on diagnosis and treatment, as well as discuss multidisciplinary strategies to improve the overall care and management of TED.

Target Audience

The intended audience for this activity is oculoplastic surgeons, neuro-ophthalmologists, ophthalmologists, endocrinologists, and other healthcare professionals involved in the management of patients with TED.

Learning Objectives

Upon successful completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:

  • Summarize surgical procedures that can improve outcomes for patients with TED.
  • Examine new research on the disease state, clinical trial designs, and emerging therapies that hold potential in the treatment of TED.
  • Examine case presentations that provide diagnostic and management solutions that can improve the overall outcomes for patients with TED.
  • Describe how a multidisciplinary team of specialists can improve the overall care and management of TED, including the use of referral and patient education.
