Activity Description

Current antiglaucoma medications have demonstrated effectiveness in the treatment of glaucoma, yet adherence to topical glaucoma therapies continues to be an issue especially when multiple therapies are needed to be administered daily. Undertreatment can also be a concern particularly in patients with motor function or coordination difficulties. Available and emerging sustained-release platforms for the delivery of these medications have the potential to address adherence and undertreatment. Moreover, recent surgical approaches for the management of glaucoma, such as minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS), offer rapid and effective reduction in intraocular pressure while avoiding conjunctival dissection. In this CE monograph, experts in the field will discuss how sustained-release glaucoma medications can improve compliance and treatment efficiency, review minimally invasive glaucoma surgical techniques, and evaluate the effect of incorporating patient preferences into therapeutic decision-making in the management of glaucoma.

Target Audience

The intended audience for this activity is ophthalmologists and other healthcare professionals involved in the management of patients with glaucoma.

Learning Objectives

Upon successful completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:

  • Recognize how the use of sustained-release glaucoma medications can improve compliance, increase efficiency of treatment, and provide a pathway for new therapies.
  • List minimally invasive glaucoma surgical techniques and technology that can allow for the fine adjustment of therapies as well as for a patient-centric decision-making process.
  • Examine the effect of incorporating patient preferences into therapeutic decision-making in the management of glaucoma.
