Activity Description
Evolving technologies and refined techniques for cataract and refractive surgery continue to develop, providing increased options for improving visual acuity and enhancing patient quality of life. Successful cataract and refractive surgery rely on a multifactorial process from preoperative assessment to postoperative care. Of the many vision-correction techniques available, selection can be challenging and must take into consideration patient preferences, characteristics, and expectations. In this CE activity, experts in the field will evaluate advances in presurgical and surgical diagnostics and intraoperative guidance systems, explore the latest information on phacoemulsification, review diagnostic and surgical techniques that can be used to correct astigmatism, compare advanced techniques and technology for guiding refractive surgery, and summarize advances in biometry and digital integration of medical and surgical eye care.
Target Audience
The intended audience for this activity is ophthalmologists and other healthcare professionals involved in the management of patients undergoing cataract and/or refractive surgery.
Learning Objectives
Upon successful completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:
- Evaluate advances in presurgical/surgical diagnostics and intraoperative guidance systems and their impact on improved refractive outcomes.
- Explore the latest information on phacoemulsification, including the use of fluidics, ultrasound, phacodynamics, advanced techniques, and instrumentation.
- Explore diagnostic and surgical techniques that can be used to correct astigmatism before, during and after cataract removal.
- Examine the latest information pertaining to the digital integration of medical and surgical eye care.
- Summarize advances in biometry, as well as IOL calculations and platforms.
- Compare advanced techniques and technology for guiding refractive surgery to reduce complications and achieve better visual outcomes.
