Activity Description
The continuing evolution of techniques and technologies for refractive surgery provides many options to optimize visual acuity. Laser vision correction techniques, current surgical methods, and other refractive surgery options such as lens-based methods have each demonstrated safe and efficacious visual and refractive results. However, not all methods are suitable for all patients. Selecting the most appropriate treatment for an individual patient can be challenging, and ophthalmologists must consider patient characteristics, lifestyle, expectations, preferences, and long-term stability. In this CE activity, experts in the field review current and emerging technologies in refractive surgery that improve patient selection and treatment assignment as well as assess how newly available and emerging technologies can result in reduced refractive errors.
Target Audience
The intended audience for this activity is ophthalmologists and other health care professionals involved in the management of patients who may benefit from refractive surgery.
Learning Objectives
Upon successful completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:
- Review the surgical treatment options available for patients with refractive errors.
- Examine differences among available and developing technologies in refractive surgery to improve patient selection and treatment assignment.
- Assess how the use of newly available and emerging technologies in refractive surgery can result in reduced refractive errors.
