Overview

Provider Statement

This continuing education activity is provided by Vindico Medical Education

Support Statement

This activity is supported by an educational grant from Dompé US, Inc.

Activity Description

Neurotrophic keratitis (NK) is a degenerative corneal disease that, if left undiagnosed and untreated, can lead to corneal ulceration, stromal melting, and vision loss. Therefore, an accurate diagnosis of NK in the early stages of the disease is essential but can be challenging if the patient is experiencing few symptoms. Decreased or loss of corneal sensitivity is the hallmark of NK, and all patients with suspected NK should undergo corneal sensitivity testing. Current and emerging treatment options can restore corneal sensitivity, promote healing, and stop disease progression when integrated into management protocols. In this CE activity, experts in the field discuss both evidence-based modalities, including corneal sensitivity testing, and interprofessional strategies for the early detection and differentiation of NK from other ocular disorders. They also evaluate current and emerging therapies for the treatment of NK based on the stage of disease.

Target Audience

The intended audience for this activity is comprehensive ophthalmologists, optometrists, and other healthcare professionals involved in the management of patients with NK.

Learning Objectives

Upon successful completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:

  • Employ evidence-based modalities including corneal sensitivity testing and interprofessional strategies for the early detection and differentiation of NK from other ocular surface disorders.
  • Apply current and emerging therapies for the treatment of NK based on the stage of the disease.
