Activity Description

Thyroid eye disease (TED) is often misdiagnosed due to its heterogeneous presentation, while ophthalmologists continue to face challenges in their diagnoses and management of these patients. Early diagnosis and treatment of the disease are most effective during the initial active phase and are essential to reduce vision loss. Managing patients with TED include normalizing thyroid levels; using magnetic resonance imaging and computed tomography to aid in differential diagnosis; and applying medical therapies such as steroids, biologics, and radiotherapy to reduce symptoms as well as increase the quality of life. Alongside traditional therapies, a novel mechanism targeting insulin-like growth factor-1 and thyroid-stimulating hormone receptors has been proven to reduce disease activity and proptosis. In addition to medical therapies, multidisciplinary cooperation is essential for the proper support and treatment of patients with TED. In this CE activity, expert faculty will evaluate tools for differential diagnosis; assess real-world evidence for the safety and efficacy of available therapies; and present multidisciplinary approaches to improve the management of TED.

Target Audience

The intended audience for this activity includes comprehensive ophthalmologists and other healthcare professionals involved in the management of patients with TED.

Learning Objectives

Upon successful completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:

  • Examine practices and procedures that aid in the differential diagnosis of TED.
  • Summarize multidisciplinary approaches that improve the management of TED.
  • Evaluate real-world clinical evidence regarding the safety and efficacy of therapies used in the treatment of TED.
