Activity Description
Meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) is a leading cause for the development and progression of evaporative dry eye disease (DED). Evaporative DED results from a deficient tear film lipid layer causing increased tear evaporation. Dry eye disease is frequently misdiagnosed, especially in asymptomatic patients, resulting in undertreatment of disease. New and emerging therapies with novel mechanisms of action that manage the signs and symptoms of evaporative DED associated with MGD are being investigated. In this CE activity, experts in the field will review risk factors for DED associated with MGD that assist in its early detection and evaluate therapies for their efficacy and safety in disease management.
Target Audience
The intended audience for this activity is ophthalmologists, optometrists, and other healthcare professionals involved in the management of patients with, or at risk for, dry eye disease (DED) and Meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD).
Learning Objectives
Upon successful completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:
- Review the risk factors associated with the presence of meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) with dry eye disease (DED) to assist in early identification and treatment.
- Examine therapies that have exhibited efficacy and safety in the treatment of DED associated with MGD.
