Activity Description

This comprehensive continuing education (CE) monograph delves into the complexities of HCM, an autosomal dominant genetic disorder marked by increased left ventricular hypertrophy. The condition can lead to significant health complications, such as heart failure, arrhythmias, stroke, and sudden cardiac death. Despite the impact of HCM on patient health and well-being, a gap in the understanding of racial/ethnic and gender-based disparities persists among healthcare professionals. This gap influences the diagnosis and management of HCM and its subtype, cardiac amyloidosis (which includes transthyretin cardiac amyloidosis and light-chain cardiac amyloidosis). It also contributes to underdiagnosis or delayed diagnosis, resulting in increased healthcare use and suboptimal patient outcomes.

This CE program is designed for healthcare professionals seeking to enhance their understanding and ability to provide equitable care for patients with HCM, thereby improving patient outcomes and addressing healthcare disparities. This monograph provides a patient advocacy point of view  and discusses screening strategies, differential diagnosis and management of clinical cases, and targeted treatments and also reviews the drivers of racial/ethnicity-based disparities in HCM care.

Target Audience

The intended audience for this activity is cardiologists, primary care physicians, nurse practitioners, physician associates, and other healthcare professionals involved in the management of patients with, or at risk for, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM).
