Tricuspid Atresia

Tricuspid atresia is a congenital anomaly in which the tricuspid valve is absent and the right ventricle is small (hypoplastic).

The normal connection between the right atrium and the right ventricle is blocked by tissue, thus in order for blood to flow through the heart there must be an atrial septal defect present. Blood then flows from the right atrium to the left atrium, through the mitral valve. A ventricular septal defect is present as well causing blood to then flow through the defect into the pulmonary artery to become oxygenated.
