Batista Procedure

The Batista procedure is a surgical technique removing a portion of the left ventricle in patients with a dilated cardiomyopathy, frequently non-ischemic.

The purpose is to reverse the negative remodeling effect and improve cardiac hemodynamics.

The procedure was first described in 1994 and subsequent studies did not show any benefit on hospitalization or mortality and thus it has been largely abandoned. There is a modified Batista procedure under investigation currently.
