RITA 3

Summary: Patients with unstable angina or non-ST elevation myocardial infarction were randomized to early invasive strategy (including percutaneous coronary intervention or PCI) or initial conservative therapy. The primary endpoint of death, non-fatal MI or refractory angina was significantly reduced at 4 months, however not at 1 year in high risk patients undergoing the early invasive strategy. There was a decrease in death and MI at 5 years in the high risk patients undergoing the early invasive strategy.
