MADIT-CRT

Summary: Evaluated implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs) versus ICD plus cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT or biventricular pacing). The primary composite endpoint of death from any cause or a nonfatal heart failure event was reduced by 41%. This was seen regardless of the etiology of heart failure (ischemic versus non-ischemic). The rate of all-cause mortality was similar in the two groups. The greatest benefit was noted when the QRS duration was > 150 milliseconds.
