COSM Trial

The Cohort of Swedish Men assessed the relationship between chocolate consumption and HF in men over 14 years of follow-up.

Design: Prospective, cohort

Patients: 31,917

Centers: Multicenter

Countries: Sweden

Results: Compared with those reporting no chocolate intake, men reporting intake of one to three servings per month (rate ratio = 0.88; 95% CI. 0.78-0.99), those reporting intake of one to two servings per week (rate ratio = 0.83; 95% CI, 0.72-0.94) and those reporting intake of three to six servings per week (rate ratio = 0.82; 95% CI, 0.68-0.99) were less likely to have HF, but those reporting intake of one or more servings per day were more likely (rate ratio = 1.1; 95% CI, 0.84-1.48; P for quadratic trend = .001).
